Kavanaugh’s character is not the real issue, the reason there has been a media circus surrounding his Senate confirmation to the USSC is because he’s more conservative than the judge he would be replacing, and the democrats are terrified that it would slant the Supreme Court slightly away from making progressive legal decisions.

Blasey Ford and her sexual assault allegations are a poison pill, fabricated to sink his nomination; if there was any real dirt on Kavanaugh, it would have been found by the Clinton administration back when he worked with Ken Starr during the impeachment proceedings back in the late 90s.

I think it’s quite possible, a lot of people knew about this. You are the one asserting that this is a Democratic fabrication, and the onus is on you to provide some evidence other than Breitbart speculation or whatever you’ve got.

Frankly I think it is disgusting that you are smearing this woman who has done absolutely nothing to indicate that her claims are false. Obviously I can’t know if they are true, but given the serious nature, forcing through Kavanaugh’s vote seems like reckless choice.

That is perfectly normal. There are a shitload of reasons women don’t report sexual assault. A very basic list:

Kinja'd!!!

https://ocrsm.umd.edu/files/Why-Is-Sexual-Assault-Under-Reported.pdf

Many of these factors would have been much worse in the early ‘80s.

There is absolutely nothing about not reporting it to the authorities until this summer that makes it non-credible, especially since she had previously told others about the attack, long before Kavanaugh was nominated.

Not his financial issues, or the fact that he believes in immunity for a sitting president but didn’t quite believe that 20 years ago. Why the change of heart? (this is the biggest reason Trump is sticking with him)

There are other conservative judges Trump could’ve picked without these problems. In fact, he already put one such person on bench. The LEAST he could do is pick someone NOT from Harvard or Yale.

Kavanaugh has lots of problems besides the sexual assault allegations. Even without them, or even if they were false, this guy is easily the worst of the choices Trump had.

Amy Coney Barrett and Raymond Kethledge would both have been better choices.

If there was any other corroborating evidence, I might believe it. But without other credible witnesses, this is literally “She said, he said” territory.

Tell me, what could Kavanaugh possibly say or do to make you believe him over her? Her allegation is essentially unfalsifiable, she could just as well have claimed that God told her he’s evil.

I think you would benefit greatly from reading the Twitter threads of the sea of sexual assault victims talking about why they didn’t report their traumatic experience. #whyIdidntreport

These accusers are getting threatened for coming forward, and Ford has no shortage of man-splaining, victim-blaming assholes on the Senate committee grilling her like she’s done something wrong.

Brock Turner was caught in media's res assaulting a woman, his accuser was dragged through the mud at trial, and after the fucker was convicted, the judge 'didn't want to ruin his future' and the entitled scum got less than a six month sentence. And that's one of the estimated six percent or so of perpetrators who face jail time as a consequence. Think about this situation from the perspective of a victim, and if you possses any empathy at all, I bet you could start to see why only now that the man she's saying tried to rape her may be tapped for the highest court in the land (for the rest of his goddamn life), she felt a need to say something.

Not his financial issues, or the fact that he believes in immunity for a sitting president but didn’t quite believe that 20 years ago. Why the change of heart? (this is the biggest reason Trump is sticking with him)

He explained his change of heart back in 2009, during Obama’s first term:

“I believe that the President should be excused from some of the burdens of ordinary citizenship while serving in office,” Kavanaugh wrote in 2009, three years after Bush appointed him to the D.C. Circuit. “This is not something I necessarily thought in the 1980s or 1990s. Like many Americans at that time, I believed that the President should be required to shoulder the same obligations that we all carry. But in retrospect, that seems a mistake.”

[citation]

Further, he explained that impeachment is always an option, as it was during Clinton’s presidency as well as Nixon’s. That’s not exactly a free pass to do whatever you want as President.

As for financial issues: What issues? He piled up a bunch of credit card debt? Like the vast majority of Americans? Last I checked, debt is not a crime, especially when you make your payments on time and/or pay off your debts eventually. Or are you referring to some other financial trouble that I’m not aware of?

You seem pretty fucking convinced she’s lying, even though you rightly admit you can’t know :

her sexual assault allegations are a poison pill, fabricated to sink his nomination

In any event, I see two paths.

One is to simply say that there are plenty of judges who would be acceptable to conservatives who are both extremely qualified, and wouldn’t have this baggage. Better to withdraw Kavanaugh
and pick someone else.

Alternatively, if they want to move forward with Kavanaugh, prudence dictates at least trying to nail down what happened (or didn’t happen). They could ask the FB I to investigate these claims specifically, they could bring in Judge and other witnesses to have them testify under oath, etc.

It is entirely possible that she fabricated the entire event. That’s the problem. I have no compelling reason to believe her. I’m not victim-blaming, I’m merely stating that there’s no proof beyond her word, and why should I take her word as truth when it’s unfalsifiable?

It’s exactly the same logic that religious people use to get others to believe in god.

And likewise Kavanaugh's "hey look, my '82 calendar says nothing about a binge-drinking rape party, so obviously it didn't happen" defense is worthless. You know what is a great idea when two people have conflicting stories of an event? You investigate and try to find more witnesses/evidence. Ford welcomes the idea, Kavanaugh seems less enthusiastic.

Occam’s razor. Simplest answer is usually the correct one. It takes two for sexual assault to happen, it only takes one to lie about it. Without other evidence to support her claims, it makes more sense to assume she’s either lying or genuinely mis-remembering events. Human memory is hilariously unreliable.

Kinja'd!!! atfsgeoff > aquila121

Kavanaugh explicitly stated he will do whatever they want to clear his name. That seems pretty enthusiastic to me. He’s already had an FBI investigation done on him in the past, and frankly, anyone asking other people to accurately remember a house party from 35 years ago during their high school years is out of their mind. At best they might recover a few snapshots of people attending the party.

Kinja'd!!! facw > atfsgeoff

But it takes a lot more than two for this to be Democratic conspiracy, which is what you are claiming. And if you want to drop that (because it is absurd, and vastly more complicated than two would-be rapists lying ) , then you need a new motive, it for me anyway, it’s hard to think of one.

Kinja'd!!! Eric @ opposite-lock.com > facw

Kinja'd!!!1

Now, I don’t know who to believe, but I do know from personal experience that women have been weaponizing fake claims of sexual assault against men that have been taken seriously without a shred of evidence for at least 26 years. Why? Because the highest performing girl in the lowest performing 6th grade class above what they called “resource” at the time in a school I was transferred into was so butt hurt by my showing her up and a few weeks later getting moved to the “ Gifted & Talented” class claimed such things about me. Luckily, I was so naive that I couldn’t even understand what they were talking about when police officers , the principal, and some higher ups in the district grilled me for hours about it. Had I been a few years older or less asexual, there’s a reasonable chance I would have spent a long time in juvie for it.

This smells just like that. A game to defame and discredit someone they don’t like. The media and most people bought it hook, line, sinker, and pole, just like they did 26 years ago and are even more likely to do now. Claim anything you want and if they happen to have been born with a penis, they’re guilty until proven innocent.

Kinja'd!!! facw > Eric @ opposite-lock.com

I think you are letting your personal experience color your perception. Study after study shows that false accusations are extremely rare, and that unreported crimes are a much much larger problem. That is not to say that false accusations don’t happen, but starting with the assumption that an accusation is likely false is statistically the wrong call (and an important part of the reason why these things are under-reported ).

Using that burden of proof, the simplest answer that the perpetrator will give is “she made it up” in any case where there are only the two people involved to be witnesses to an allegation. I sincerely doubt the victim is making it up in all those cases. And given how Ford’s life and  career will now be forever tied to and defined by this chain of events and the assault she alleges, I think the cost for her personally (if she’s lying and fabricating this) is too high to automatically assume that.

If I were somehow in the position of becoming a Supreme Court justice, I’d give it a 90% chance that this absolute lie would be dug up to be used against me by whichever opposition there was. How do you even defend yourself?

I suspect most are true, but most aren’t being used for political purposes, either. Too many parallels for my comfort. In this case, it could also be an hours of fame thing as well. If it derails or simply delays , she gets hero status for stopping that terrible person’s appointment vote  past the midterms.
